Supersize me! - Food themed clothes

Glasses: Value store in Cardiff
Bowling Jacket: Vintage at Urban Outfitters
Bow: 99p store

My aesthetic tastes are fairly predictable- give me anything colourful, patterned, garish, kitschy, childlike or cartoony and I'm a happy camper. Throw in anything with references to junk food and I'm in cheese sauce heaven!
So I was well chuffed when I got sent this gift of lovely googly eyed accessories from the splendid chaps at Random Eyes Boutique this month. Kawaii style products can be found left, right and centre these days (and some of them are too naff and cutesy even for me) but there is something super charming about these fast food friends. I can't get over the mini hot-dog brooch, look at his little meaty face. I bet he tastes great with mustard.
(p.s you can't eat crayons.)

MORE TASTY MORSELS...
Keeping on the food theme, here is my pick of other gastronomy related garments. You can indulge in as many of these lard laden nibbles as you like and your cunt of a supervisor at 'Weight Watchers' won't be able to say a thing. Ha!

I also got sent a delightfully bonkers doughnut and skull necklace from Krista, all the way in the land of beef jerky, the U.S.A...but you can see that next time

Happy eating and wearing folks...nom nom nom
Don't forget to floss in between meals you chubby guzzle guts.

Sweet Charity

In amongst the homogenised mass of high street brands, shopping malls and value stores, you can't find a better place for weird and wonderful bargains than your local charity shop (or for those of you in the U.S.A that don't speak proper English - thrift store).
And  I have to admit, I'm probably one of the luckiest charity shop buyers I have ever met. Give me £30 and I can come out of the charity shops head to toe in new garms with a few kitschy ornaments for my mantle piece to boot.  I just have a knack for sniffing out the good stuffs in amongst the sweaty armpits of old shirts and the moth ball ridden pockets of jackets that haven't left the racks since the 1800's. I guess I must be like the style version of one those ghost hunters on TV with a freaky 6th sense.
Another great thing about shopping in charity shops is that you can have a guilt free spending spree, safe in the knowledge that your addiction to clothes is actually helping fund a prosthetic leg for an amputee orphan puppy in Yemen. You can sleep well tonight.

Among my recent purchases are these fine specimens of second hand sartorial sweetness:

Scary Clown Embroidery & Clown Ornament: £1.50

Traid Remade Jersey: £5

Turquoise polka dot skirt: £1.50

Checked Skirt: £3

High Waisted Polka Dot Shorts: £3

Polka Dot Skirt: £3

Kitsch Panda and Unicorn: £1.50

Traid Remade High Waisted Denim Shorts: £5

Dolphin Vest: £1
Traid Remade customised sweatshirt: £5

Total spent: a very thrifty £30.00

And because I'm a kind old soul and happy to share the wealth, here is a list of my favourite purveyors of second hand goods, be quick though or I will have snatched all the good stuff!
  • Traid in Brixton and Camden, London
  • Any of the charity shops on the Walworth Rd, London
  • All of the charity shops on Cowbridge Rd East, Cardiff
  • St Christophers Hospice, East Dulwich, London
  • The Mind Shop, East Dulwich, London
  • Geranium Hospice, Tulse Hill, London
  • Scope, Camberwell, London
  • Any on Arwenack St, Falmouth, Cornwall
Can you recommend any good second hand shops in London or elsewhere? Any hidden gems selling quality old tat that I might like to give a home to?

Adieu for now, The Fashion Turd x

In the mood for a snood

Now I'm not usually one to wax lyrical for weeks on end about purchased material goods (I have far more important things to talk about, like the price of tampons, for example) but I can't get over the sheer magnificence of my multicoloured sequin snood from 'Irregular Choice'.
It's just the most attention seeking, gratuitous, overtly spangly, retina melting, bling bling homegirl style piece of headwear a person could hope to own. It makes me feel like Willy Wonka mixed with a freckled version of Kylie Minogue in her 'Can't get you out of my head' video; like I have acquired a kind of poptastic everlasting gobstopper attached to my neck. And that's a look we all strive for eh?

Snood: Irregular Choice
Jumper: Knitted by my Grandma
Trousers: H&M
Shoes: Second Hand Converse
Badges: Various
Hair Colour: Hot Hot Pink by Manic Panic

Ok, enough of my large face for today. Tell me, what is the most splendid piece of headwear that you own? A Tassled Turban? A Fierce Fez? A Bling Bling Bonnet? Let me know below...

Until next time my little golden ticket winners, I bid you a candy coloured farewell...

Junk in my trunk

If a shop is willing to sell me a plastic retro pineapple for 50p, then it is a mighty fine establishment in my book. And last week, my flat mate, the delectable Maria Holy Fire, took me to a fine purveyor of such1st class junk in the delightful suburb of Brixton where I managed to acquire such a splendid specimen of kitsch fruit memorabilia.

The Brixton East Warehouse was hosting a 2 day retro/vintage junk sale in the run up to the opening of their new retail unit later this month and what a ball we had rummaging through their bits and pieces...

Me doing my best impression of a 1990's Steven King hardback cover

Retro fabric cushions all for £2-£4. Get on my bed.

Purchased: Weird round cushion with acid trip style woodland scene fabric!

Old silk ties, setting you back a huge 50p. Bargainous.

Who the fuck is this Victor character who reserved everything?

Purchased: Amazing nursery rhyme themed sleeping bag (Including dirty Humpty Dumpty with his legs spread above.)

Maria with her junk on show
'Practical Householder'- now there's a ladies magazine that we don't see any more. Looks a damn site better than British Vogue that's for sure.

Purchased: Vintage children's birthday cards..what beautiful trippy illustrations eh?

Ginger hair, tattooed hands, geek glasses. She gets the thumbs up from me.
Tea cosies / Hobbit hats

Purchased: A splendid selection of vintage Disney and children's fabric. Couldn't believe my little eyes.

If only all junk fairs could be as bountiful as this one. Most events in London town such as this are full of Hoxton bonnet wearing hipsters willing to pay over the odds for Barbour jackets and cruddy old mirrors just because they have been told it's 'on trend'! Vile. Thanks to the folks at Brixton East Warehouse for making it such a pleasurable morning and for putting some junk in my trunk...

Any good junk sales near you lot? Let me know your recommendations purlease...

Until next time my friends. I have been The Fashion Turd and you have been amazing x x x

My girlfriend gets snap happy...

Don't worry, you haven't walked into one of our private 'one night in Paris' style bedroom photo shoots with me doing the 'downwards dog', just a little bit of fun-filled outfit piccy taking at my girlfriend's London flat...
Denim Gilet: Hand customised
Badges: Various, including thrifted vintage 'Ronald McPaedophile' birthday badge!
Tie: Thrifted from 'Brixton East Warehouse'
Shirt: H&M
Skirt: Thrifted
Tights: Camden Market
Socks: Peacocks
Trainers: Second Hand

Photographs: Fred Silver

I also took the plunge into professionalism and got meself some business cards printed from Moo. I'm really pleased with the finish - the colours are good, the photo's are crisp and the feel is silky smooth. mmmm cardboard. They are also well priced and the people at the other end are really rather charming! If you ever come across me in person I shall be shoving one of these into your hand before you can say 'self-fucking-promotion-r-us'!
You likey? Who could refuse a lucrative business collaboration with me after receiving such a fine piece of cardboard based networking apparatus? Rockefeller eat your heart out.

Anyways, See you soon boys and girls
