The Fashion Turd meets Fred Butler for SpineTV -an audio visual orgasm

It's London Fashion Week, so it's finally been edited and uploaded and i'm proud to present to you the multicoloured spectacle that is the video interview i did with Fred Butler for SpineTV. Spine is a great online TV channel with a sooper variety of   f-f-fresh content that is worth a good gander (when you're not reading The Fashion Turd of course!).

I was such a super lucky turd to  go and have a wander round Fred's shiny, happy studio and ask her all the stuff that i wanted to know. I hate to sound like cheese on toast but she is a mahooosive inspiration for me and to top it all off she was a right lovely bird as well!

I hope you enjoy watching it as much as i enjoyed doing it. Prepare to be dazzled by the pretty colours! Has she inspired you to get out the old glue gun and scissors? Let me know your thoughts. What's your favourite Fred piece?

(P.S if there is trouble with my embedded video...think the HTML is a bit ill... you can watch it HERE )

The Fashion Turd gets ANGRY! ...yes, she's pi**ed off big time!

This is my angry face!!! :

The Fashion Turd is not usually one to moan and complain like a petulant child (i'm sure the wife would say otherwise), but I've got a bit of beef to get off me chest today!

Now i know as bloggers we should all be really supportive of one another and not throw toys out of the pram, but it really really gets on my tits the way that some certain 'popular' and highly followed blogs can get away with merely posting second hand photos of runway shows and a few scans from Vogue, day in day out. Most of them give themselves the self appointed title of 'Fashionista' or some other pretentious adjective from hell, yet all they are doing is getting laid with google image search!

I read a post this morning which had attracted 59 comments for merely posting a scanned spread from this months I-D magazine! Not even any commentry on why the writer liked the aesthetic!...what a joke... and not even a funny one! I love seeing what inspires people, but if i just want to see what I-D has to offer (and i do) then i'l go and buy a copy for my coffee table.

There are so many fantastic blogs posting unique, innovative and intelligent fashion/style content that have come into fruition from hard work and original content ideas, yet these are getting overlooked because people seem to like getting spoon fed catwalk images. Come on blog readers, open your eyes to the quirky and beautiful and funny and ORIGINAL stuff that is being posted if you look a little harder!

...Ok, rant over, i'm tired now and i need a cup of tea. But what do you think, do you agree, or am i just a little touchy and pre-menstrual? Let me know!

Anyway to honour the bloggers that i think are doing a really wicked job and keep me coming back for more, here are a few links to sites i'm enjoying at the moment. Enjoy!

Dirty Butt - Ab Sotos personal style page..gotta love his garms!
Pandemonia - real life exploits of london pop artist and inflatable hottie Pandemonia
Calur Villade - beautiful and quirky personal style blog
Ms Fitz - stylist with a razor sharp sense of humour
The Column of Samantha Tyler - a cutting, bitchy, funny yet insightful view of the industry
A Witch's Style - a cool hippy dippy teen with a sense of whimsy
Julia Pott - illustrator and animator extroidanaire
Fashion Forestry - kitsch and clever personal style blogger

Go take a lookey with those inquisitve eye holes of yours! Don't let me down.

Fruit Bowl Face

This is me with a big glittery apple on my face looking like a Cox's pippin that has just had a night out in G.A.Y!
Me friend Sophia who is a wizz with face paints did it at a party night that herself and her equally creative flatmates host!

I usually don't like anyone apart from myself drawing over me old boat, but i think this turned out pretty radical! Whatcha reckon?

If you fancy a night out where you end up with a shiny colourful face like The Fashion Turd's then you should turn up at her next party night.
Details here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=153397674713929&index=1

What would you ask her to paint all over your cheeks? (the kind on your face...no smut here please!)

Anyway, see you next time folks!

P.S Day number 2 of 'The Fashion Turd Week' is underway at What Katie Wore / What you Wore right here:

The Fashion Turd on featured www.whatkatiewore.com - get in there me!

I'm a super dooper well happy bunny cos the lovely Katie and Joe from the British style institution that is What Katie Wore have dedicated the next five days on their sister site What you Wore to showing off my ugly face! Pretty decent of them don't you think?
This is their post for day 1 of Fashion Turd Week: http://whatyouwore.whatkatiewore.com/2011/02/19/what-the-fashion-turd-wore-day-one/

By the way this is Katie....i would look like this if i had more money to buy 'grown-ups' clothes and if I was less of a crusty dreadhead!

So it would be great if you could have a wander over to their site and show some sloppy love for me over there! And show them some love too whilst your at it because anyone that has worn a different outfit every day for over a year deserves a bit of a War Heroes medal!

Me and my Super Superficial tiger

This is me wearing my 'Tiger' sweatshirt by Asa Wikman for Super Superficial.
It makes my Grandma laugh because the tiger has just come back from a trip to the animal dentist and has been given braces to wear on his teeth!

I love the guys at Super Superficial because they let designers and artists go mental all over their tee-shirts thus offering an absolutely wicked collection of unique garments for us folk to wear. They were also really kind and put my picture on their facebook.
Here are a few of my faves from them, which one do you like best?

Have a lookey look at their website or go and give them a visit at their stores in Carnaby St or Covent Garden in London City...the staff are really nice and don't go mad if you unfold all of their neatly just-folded tee-shirts!

Happy Valentines Day Horn-dogs!

To be honest I'm not really a massive believer in the old Valentines day malarky, if you're lucky enough to be in a relationship with me then everyday is Valentines day pretty much...what??!!...they don't call me 'the trouser snake' for nothing.
But anyway, to my beautiful long-suffering wife, this is for you because you rock my socks....

So to all you lovers out there, happy copulating, to all you singletons, bad luck and hope you have enough tissues at hand.

All my love

Kiss My Cherry!

Have I suddenly developed a nasty lazy eye? Am i doing my best impression of 90's pop sensation Gabrielle? No, don't be silly!...

I'm merely rocking out my amazing new Leopard print eye patch, just one of the delicious gifts kindly sent to me by the girls at Kiss My Cherry.
The company's founder Laura Masters describes herself as a "voluptuary in love with glamour, decadence and general salaciousness" - my kind of bird! Their stuff kind of falls somewhere in between burlesque and rockibilly with plenty of kitsch thrown in for good measure. Go and have a look at their hand made and vintage hats, underwear and accesories and keep your beady eye on this blog for me modelling more of their stuff like a kinky whore very soon.

'Make-me-wet-Wednesdays! - Hercules and Love Affair

So I've had a few right tireing days at work and i spent last night sat indoors, devouring half a family size bar of a certain 'bubbly mint chocolate' and consequently feeling sorry for myself in a pair of skanky red jogging pants...attractive.

So in order to pull myself out of a downwards spiral of miserableness i have decided to dedicate Wednesday's to posting pictures of lovely, talented people that  make my eyes happy. People that i look at and think "oh wow, when i grow up i want to be just like you". People that make me do a movie style triple take. People that make me just a little bit moist behind the bollocks....you get the idea?

So here we go, No #1 in the 'Make-me-wet-Wednesdays' series, drum roll.....

     HERCULES
        AND
LOVE AFFAIR

I can think of no better people than one of my favourite musical ensembles Hercules and Love Affair to always make my seratonin levels go psycho.
I was lucky enough to see them live last year and they looked and sounded absolutely incredible - the queerest, most androgenous mix of plastic sunglasses, heels, sailor hats, bare chests and 80's high tops. I love the contrast of how Kim Ann Foxman and Nomi Ruiz look on stage and how they challenge traditional notions of the 'feminine' and 'masculine' aesthetic...girl? boy? all of the above? who cares?
So i urge you to get your killer platforms and sunny G's on and revel in the talent of these New Yorkan disco heads. Here are some pics but take a look at their blog too innit!http://www.inlovewithhercules.com/

P.S who is making you guys 'Wet-this-Wednesday'??!

Help me choose some headgear please!

It's still bloody freezing in London and my dreadlocks are looking a wee bit skanky at the moment, (my desired new pink fringe has ended up being more of a grubby shade of 'salmon') so i am in dire need of some haenous new headgear! I have compiled a shortlist below, so choose the piece you think i should invest in and leave as a comment for me. Alternatively if you can suggest any other delicious designs that i might want to wear on me old bonce then let me know also; would be much appreciated and i might give your blog a special shout out next post if you succeed in inspiring me with your idea!

Cut out waterproof with
fur by Fud Hoods
Hats all folks by Irregular Choice
Skull beret by Kiss My Cherry
Brain hat by Lazy Oaf
Turban by ASOS
Mini Ears by Yokoo

So which one of these ridiculously head-tastic pieces should i choose to keep my skull looking fly? The Mini ears headband? The customized Irregular Choice baseball cap?...ooh i want them all...help me please...i'll be happier than Amy Winehouse with a crack sandwich if you do!

Kind Regards

The Turd x
